What is a Green Amendment?
Green Amendments are self executing provisions added to the bill of rights section of a constitution that recognize and protect the rights of all people, including future generations, to pure water, clean air, a stable climate, and healthy environments.
The effort to educate and advocate for Green Amendment protections in Colorado is taking hold.
Advocates and organizations are coming together to educate communities about the values of giving constitutional protection to their environmental rights using bill of rights placement and carefully crafted language that meets the Green Amendment criteria.
Organizations leading the way today include:
- Ecological Consultants for the Public Interest
- Great Old Broads for Wilderness
- Green Amendments For The Generations
The proposed Colorado Amendment would be added to the constitution’s bill of rights and will ensure that environmental rights are given the same highest constitutional protection as other cherished freedoms such as speech, religion and property rights
It is time to organize to spread the word and support meaningful environmental rights for all the people of Colorado.
